Made in California, USA

Genesis Pickups is a California-based boutique tone shop founded by a former material scientist. With research experience at one of America’s top MRSECs funded by NSF and the US Department of Energy, we study the physics with the same rigor and create pickups with quantitatively validated accuracy.

Our mission is to create precision pickups that answer the age-old question countless players have asked in forums: “Which pickups will get me that [INSERT ARTIST] tone?” Instead of vague claims like “XYZ pickups inspired by so-and-so’s tone, built by the human ears’ perception of sound”, a process effectively equivalent to stochastic guessing, given the large number of interdependent, continuously varying parameters that make accurate auditory inference statistically implausible, we provide definitive solutions: pickups reverse-engineered from specific, identifiable guitars to deliver the most authentic tone possible. (Read more about our Philosophy)

Our bread & butter is the employment of a forensic, precision-driven reverse-engineering process, leveraging electromagnetic and metallurgical analysis to recreate pickups with scientific accuracy. Every set of our recreations is directly tied to a specific subject guitar and its serial number, ensuring clarity of a true-to-original reproduction rather than the ambiguity of a generic “inspired-by” pickup set.

In addition, while hand-winding is often linked to variability, our refined approach maintains tight tolerances without losing the dynamic feel and responsiveness that make hand-wound pickups special. This level of control is essential, ensuring that our pickups don’t just hit the right frequency responses, but also capture the feel that brings your sound to life.
